Siobhán O’Sullivan

Dr. Siobhán O’Sullivan is the Executive Director of the Royal Irish Academy (RIA), where she oversees governance and strategic initiatives. She is also an Honorary Associate Professor at the Royal College of Surgeons, teaching Healthcare Ethics and Law. From 2011 to 2022, Dr. O’Sullivan served as Chief Bioethics Officer in the Department of Health, leading the national ethics response to COVID-19. She was Chair of the of the Steering Committee for Human Rights in the fields of Biomedicine and Health (CDBIO) at the Council of Europe from 2022-2024 and is currently chairing the CDBIO strategic plan working group. She was vice-chair of the European Group on Ethics in Science & New Technologies, advising the European Commission until 2022. She is currently Chair of the British Medical Journal Ethics Committee, and ethics advisor to the European Medicines Agency Network Data Steering Group.
