Christian O’Reilly

Christian O’Reilly is a playwright and screenwriter based in Galway, Ireland. Before becoming a writer, he worked in disability rights in Ireland, an experience that inspired him to create the acclaimed feature film Inside I’m Dancing (2004) and write the play No Magic Pill (2022). His other disability-themed work includes the plays Sanctuary (2012) and Unspeakable Conversations (2024). Sanctuary broke new ground in Ireland in its depiction of a sexual relationship between two intellectually disabled people, performed by a cast of intellectually disabled actors. No Magic Pill broke new ground in Irish theatre in its casting of physically disabled actors and received the Audience Choice Award at the Irish Times Irish Theatre Awards 2022. Among his other plays are Chapatti (first produced by Northlight in Chicago in 2014 in a co-production with Galway International Arts Festival) and The Good Father (first produced in 2002 by Tony Award-winning Druid Theatre Company).
