Peter Mills

Pete is the Director of the PHG Foundation, an interdisciplinary health policy think tank and linked charity of the University of Cambridge (UK) with the mission ‘to make science work for health’. Pete has worked for 25 years at the intersection of science, ethics and public policy. Previously, he was Associate Director at the Nuffield Council on Bioethics, where he led the Council’s work on genome editing, and before that headed the UK’s Human Genetics Commission secretariat. He has held senior policy positions at the UK Department of Health and the Human Fertilisation & Embryology Authority, and has served on several national and international bodies dealing with bioethics, biomedicine, biotechnology and human rights, including UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Bioethics Committee, the World Economic Forum’s Global Future Council on Biotechnology, and the Council of Europe Bioethics Committee (CDBIO). Pete holds an MA in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from Trinity College, Oxford, and an MA and PhD in philosophy from the University of Warwick.
