John Evans

John H. Evans is the Tata Chancellor’s Chair in Social Sciences, Professor of Sociology, Associate Dean of Social Sciences, and Co-Director of the Institute for Practical Ethics at the University of California, San Diego. His research explores the ethical and social dimensions of scientific and technological advancements, with a focus on human gene editing, bioethics, and the relationship between religion and science. A leading scholar in these fields, he has authored seven books and numerous articles and co-leads a major research initiative on public perceptions of foundational questions in technology. Evans is a Fellow of the Hastings Center, the International Society for Science and Religion, and a member of the Sociological Research Association.
