Françoise Baylis

Françoise Baylis is Distinguished Research Professor Emerita at Dalhousie University and President-Elect of the Royal Society of Canada. She is a philosopher and bioethicist whose work bridges policy and practice, challenging conventional approaches to health, science, and biotechnology. She frequently contributes to national and international policy discussions through government advisory roles, media commentary, and public education. Baylis is a member of the Order of Canada and the Order of Nova Scotia. She is an elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada (RSC) and the International Science Council (ISC). In 2022, she received the Killam Prize for the Humanities and the following year she was awarded the Canada Council for the Arts Molson Prize in Humanities—Canada's highest honours for scholars in the humanities. Baylis is the author of Altered Inheritance: CRISPR and the Ethics of Human Genome Editing.
